About the blog

In 1936, basketball’s founder, Dr. James Naismith, visited Indianapolis, and attended the twenty-sixth annual Indiana high school basketball tournament. Naismith told an audience at a YMCA dinner, “Basketball really had its beginning in Indiana which remains today the center of the sport.” This blog takes its title from Naismith’s words, and aims at examining the origins and history of Hoosiers’ state past-time.

(Source of Naismith quote: ” ‘Father of Basketball’ Says Game Really Had Its Beginning in Indiana, Leader in the Winter Sport,” Indianapolis News, 28 March 1936.)
